Jam jars store jam the Sun jar collects and stores sunshine so that you can use it at night Original design by Tobias Wong Made with a traditional Mason jar and high tech energy efficient lighting! Captured inside the jar are a highly efficient solar cell rechargeable battery and low energy LED lamps. When the jar is placed in sunlight the solar cell creates an electrical current that charges the battery over a few hours. This energy is then used at night to power the three LED lamps inside the jar. Sun Jar pack The light is diffused by the frosted jar and give the appearance of sunlight emitting from the (warm coloured LED lights are used to give a more natural and warm light). You may have noticed that there is no switch on the sun jar - in fact there are no visible controls at all - there is a clever light sensor inside that automatically activates the lights when it gets dark or lights are turned out!* Mason Jars are not only beautiful but by their very nature they are completely water tight - so the Sun Jar can happily be left outside in any weather conditions. A perfect garden light or night light for a kids bedroom. *there is an override switch inside the lid to turn off the light at night and conserve battery life. How it works! Sun Jars need DIRECT sunshine to work! Leave the Sun Jar outside or in a sunny window in DIRECT sunlight for several hours to charge (electric light indoors is not bright enough!). Bad weather is bad news for Sun Jars! You may find that in winter or cloudy weather your Sun Jar illuminates for less time than normal or even not at all. This is because your Sun Jar require SUN to re-charge! For improved results leave the Sun Jar switched off (switch up) whilst charging. Simply switch it to the on position (switch down) when you would like it to glow. This conserves battery life and will leave it to illuminate when you need it to. If the weather has been particularly bad as a last resort you can also charge the batteries in a normal bat.

Product Reviews

Nice concept; works ok
The sun jar works as promised . . . sort of. First, the supplied NiMH AA battery is only 700Mh, so it doesn't hold much of a charge. I replaced it with a better AA rechargable battery from Target ( 2200 Mh Enegizer - 4 pack for $10.00), and performance greatly improved. Still, as the instructions state, the jar must be placed in direct sunlight to charge. When I leave it outside, it does take a charge well and the light glows brightly all night. But if you simply leave the jar on your windowsill to charge, the results are disappointing - the light is dim and lasts only a short while. I suspect that as we head into fall and winter, charging will be more difficult.

Again, the concept of a rechargable nightlight is a good one, and my kids love it. But the battery and the PV charging panel are both undersized for the task. Of course, you can always recharge the battery in a AC charger, but that defeats the purpose of having a rechargable nightlight. The deduction of stars was based primarily on my subjective perception of value. If the Sun Jar were $20, I would give it 4 stars, but would still replace the battery with a new one.

Junk!!!!!
I bought a Sun Jar for a birthday gift for my girlfriend. It didn't work after she left it in a south facing window all day. So, we did a little investigating on the inside and the hot glue gun attached battery pack fell off the circuit board, then the wire connecting the battery to the board broke free from the solder. After playing with it a little while, i came to the conclusion that the rechargeable battery was installed backward and after reversing the battery and holding the wire to the point it disconnected from it finally worked. Instead of returning it, i choose to try to re-solder the wire myself....big mistake because in the process more hot glued parts and poorly solder wires came loose. After finally giving up and making its innards total fubar ,I bought my girlfriend another gift and now I have a nice frosted jar for my change.
The product is a good idea, but the craftsmanship is so poor that I would not recommend this product to anyone.

do not waste your money
I was excited for this product and it worked so well the 1st couple nights, but that was all. the light is so dim that u can barely see anything. Do not waste your money. I am returning it to Target (where I purchased it)
